Plante herbacée, hermaphrodite, délicate, à tiges dressées et minces, divisées en ramifications terminées par des fleurs.
Feuilles à la base ou alternes, simples, linéaires, entières, évoquant des brins d’herbe, groupées au bas de la tige, les caulinaires alternes.
Fleurs à symétrie radiaire, jaune pâle, très petites, sans sépales. Longues bractées jaunâtres, pointues, à la base de chaque ombelle composée de 2 à 4 rayons (rarement 5 ou 6). Verticille de larges bractéoles, pointues en haut, jaune vert, à 3 nervures saillantes sous chaque ombellule. Ovaire infère.
Fruits, akènes côtelés.

Plant herbaceous, hermaphrodite, delicate. Stems erect and thin, divided into ramifications finished by flowers.
Leaves at the base or alternate, simple, linear, entire, reminding of grass bits, grouped at the base of the stem, the stem-leaves alternate.
Flowers radially symmetrical, pale yellow, very small, without sepals. Long yellowish bracts, pointed, at the base of each umbel made up of 2 to 4 rays (seldom 5 or 6). Whorl of broad bracteoles, pointed on the top, yellow green, with 3 protruding veins under each umbellet. Ovary inferior.
Fruits, ribbed achenes.

Bupleurum : forme latinisée du grec ancien βούπλευρον, -ου (nom)
[ < βοῦς, βοός (nom) = le bœuf, la vache + πλευρά, -άς (nom)
= la plèvre, le flanc ] = le flanc de bœuf, la plèvre de bœuf,
en référence à la consistance coriace des feuilles dans plusieurs
espèces de ce genre.
Gracile : emprunt du latin gracilis, -is, -e (adj.) = mince, grêle, chétif.
Bupleurum : Latinized form of the Classical Greek βούπλευρον, -ου
(noun) [ < βοῦς, βοός (noun) = ox, cow + πλευρά, -άς (noun)
= pleura, flank ] = ox pleura, ox flank, referring to
the tough consistency of the leaves in several species of this genus.
Gracile : borrowed from Latin gracilis, -is, -e (adj) = thin, slender, frail.
