Plante herbacée, hermaphrodite, en touffe, à tiges ramifiées à la base.
Feuilles alternes, simples, linéaires à lancéolées, entières, vert clair, de 6 à 10 mm de large, souples, duveteuses, plates, engainantes, velues sur le limbe et la gaine, à ligule de 2 à 3 mm de long, membraneuse, velue.
Fleurs en épillets d’environ 8 mm de long, groupés en inflorescences blanchâtres, denses, compactes, presque ovoïdes, de 10 à 40 mm de long, d’abord dressées puis penchées, douces au toucher. Épillets de taille égale, à 1 fleur à 3 étamines entourées de glumes soyeuses, saillantes, atténuées en arête plumeuse. Ovaire supère.
Fruits, caryopses à graines soudées à la paroi interne.

Plant herbaceous, hermaphrodite, tufted. Stems branched at the base.
Leaves alternate, simple, linear to lanceolate, entire, pale green, from 6 to 10 mm across, supple, hoary, flat, sheathing, very hairy on the blade and the sheath, with a membranous, very hairy ligule from 2 to 3 mm long.
Flowers in spikelets approximately 8 mm long, joined together in whitish, dense, compact, almost ovoid inflorescences from 10 to 40 mm long, initially erect then tilted, soft. Spikelets of equal size, with 1 flower with 3 stamens surrounded by silky, protruding glumes attenuated in a feathery ridge. Ovary superior.
Fruits, caryopsis with seeds fused with the internal wall.

Étymologie / Etymology :
Lagurus : emprunt du grec ancien λαγός (λάγων), -ου (nom) = le lièvre
+ οὐρά, -ᾶς (nom) = la queue. Le nom signifie: queue de lièvre,
en référence à la forme de l’épi.
Ovatus : emprunt du latin ovatus, -a, -um (adj.) [ < ovum, -i (nom)
= l’œuf ] = qui a la forme d’un œuf, ovale, en référence à la forme
de l’épi.
Lagurus : borrowed from Classical Greek λαγός (λάγων), -ου (noun)
= hare + οὐρά, -ᾶς (noun) = tail. The name means: hare's tail,
referring to the shape of the spike.
Ovatus : borrowed from Latin ovatus, -a, -um (adj) [ < ovum, -i (noun)
= egg ] = egg-shaped, oval, referring to the shape of the spike.
