Plante herbacée, hermaphrodite, érigée, à tiges glabres, ramifiées, cylindriques, de 5 à 10 mm de diamètre.

Feuilles alternes, composées pennées ou bipennées, glabres, pétiolées, de 12 à 25 cm de long, de 7 à 25 cm de large, à folioles étroites, linéaires à oblongues, dentées, à dents blanches et cartilagineuses au sommet.

Fleurs à symétrie radiaire, blanches, de 1 mm de diamètre, réunies en ombelles composées de 10 cm de diamètre, à 15 à 60 rayons plus ou moins dressés, même à maturité. Involucre de bractées à divisions linéaires dépassant la moitié de la longueur des rayons. Involucelle à bractéoles linéaires. Ovaire infère.

Fruits, akènes ovales, de 1,5 à 2 mm de long, pâles, à 5 côtes fines.

Flowers radially symmetrical, white, 1 mm in diameter, joined together in compound umbels 10 cm in diameter, with 15 to 60 rays more or less erect even at maturity. Involucre of bracts with linear divisions exceeding half the length of the rays. Involucel with linear bracteoles. Ovary inferior.

Fruits, ovate achenes, from 1.5 to 2 mm long, pale, with 5 thin ribs.

in 79 AD. Latinized form of the Classical Greek ἄμμι, -ιος (-εως)

(noun), name given to an umbelliferous plant by Dioscorides, Greek

doctor and botanist died in 90 AD.

Majus : borrowed from Latin major, -or, -us (comparative)
