Plante herbacée, hermaphrodite, très élancée, à poils glanduleux, à forte odeur de camphre. Tiges dressées.
Feuilles alternes, simples, linéaires à lancéolées, sessiles, entières ou à peine dentées, poilues, visqueuses, souvent un peu ondulées sur les bords.
Fleurs réunies en capitules nombreux de 5 à 12 mm, à l’aisselle et au sommet des tiges. Fleurons ligulés jaunes de 3 à 4 mm de long, peu nombreux, à languette courte, dressée, dépassant à peine l’involucre. Involucre à bractées très inégales, les extérieures vertes et extérieurement glanduleuses, les intérieures membraneuses et portant une bande verte sur le dos. Ovaire infère.
Fruits, akènes blanchâtres, velus, surmontés d’une aigrette de poils.

Leaves alternate, simple, linear to lanceolate, sessile, entire or hardly toothed, pilose, viscous, often a little wavy on edges.
Flowers joined together in many capitula from 5 to 12 mm, at the axil and at the top of the stems. Ray florets yellow, from 3 to 4 mm long, few, with a short, erect strip, hardly exceeding the involucre. Involucre with very unequal bracts, the external ones green and glandulous on the outside, the interior ones membranous and carrying a green band on back. Ovary inferior.
Fruits, whitish, very hairy achenes, surmounted by a pappus of hairs.

Dittrichia : nom donné en l’honneur de Manfred Dittrich (né en 1934),
ancien directeur de l'herbier du Jardin botanique de Berlin.
Graveolens : emprunt du latin graveolens (adj.) [ < gravis, -is, -e (adj.)
= lourd, fort, pénétrant + oleo, -es, -ere (verbe) = avoir une odeur,
sentir ] = qui sent fort, fétide.
Dittrichia : name given in honour of Manfred Dittrich (born 1934),
previous director of the herbarium at the Botanical Garden
in Berlin.
Graveolens : borrowed from Latin graveolens (adj) [ < gravis, -is, -e (adj)
= heavy, strong, pervasive + oleo, -es, -ere (verb) = to be odorous,
to smell ] = strong smelling, fetid.
