Plante herbacée, hermaphrodite, à tiges dressées, couchées ou redressées, glabres, feuillées.
Feuilles alternes, simples, linéaires, étroites, raides, presque cylindriques, lisses ou sillonnées, creuses, noueuses, engainantes à la base.
Fleurs à symétrie radiaire, brun sombre à noirâtres, réunies par 3 à 20 en cymes de glomérules. Inflorescence non dépassée par les bractées, à ramifications dressées à étalées. Périanthe à 6 tépales libres, atténués en pointe très aiguë. 6 étamines. Ovaire supère.
Fruits, capsules à 3 angles, de 2 à 4 mm de long, terminées par un bec au sommet.

Plant herbaceous, hermaphrodite. Stems erect, lying or ascending, glabrous, leafy.
Leaves alternate, simple, linear, narrow, stiff, almost cylindrical, smooth or furrowed, dug, nodose, sheathing at the base.
Flowers radially symmetrical, dark brown to blackish, joined together by 3 to 20 in cymes of glomeruli. Inflorescence not exceeded by the bracts, with erect to spread out ramifications. Perianth with 6 free tepals attenuated in a very acute point. 6 stamens. Ovary superior.
Fruits, capsules with 3 angles, from 2 to 4 mm long, finished by a beak at the top.

= joindre, lier ] = le jonc, nom donné à la plante par Pline, naturaliste
latin mort en 79 apr. J.-C., en référence à ses tiges qui servaient à
faire des liens.
Articulatus : emprunt du latin articulatus, -a, -um (part. passé)
[ < articulo, -as, -are (verbe) = séparer ] = séparé en éléments
distincts.
Juncus : borrowed from Latin juncus, -i (noun) [ < jungo, -is, -ere (verb)
= to join, to tie ] = rush, name given to the plant by Plinius, Latin
naturalist died in 79 AD, referring to its stems which were used to
make ties.
Articulatus : borrowed from Latin articulatus, -a, -um (past participle)
[ < articulo, -as, -are (verb) = to separate ] = jointed, separated into
distinct elements.
