Arbuste ou arbre hermaphrodite, à rameaux glabres.

Feuilles alternes, composées imparipennées, sans stipules, à folioles dentées, glabres sur la face supérieure et poilues sur la face inférieure.

Fleurs à symétrie radiaire, jaunes, réunies en panicules lâches. Corolle à 4 pétales lancéolés pourvus de 2 appendices à la base. Calice à 5 sépales. 5 à 8 étamines insérées sur un disque réceptaculaire. 3 carpelles soudés entre eux. Ovaire supère.

Fruits, capsules en forme de pyramide à 3 côtés, de 40 mm de hauteur sur 20 à 25 mm de largeur, contenant dans chaque lobe une graine ovoïde noire.

Treelet or tree hermaphrodite, with glabrous branches.

Leaves alternate, compound imparipinnate, without stipules, with toothed leaflets, glabrous on the upper surface and hairy on the lower surface.

Flowers radially symmetrical, yellow, joined together in loose panicles. Corolla with 4 lanceolate petals provided with 2 appendices at the base. Calyx with 5 sepals. 5 to 8 stamens inserted on a receptacular disc. 3 carpels fused with each other. Ovary superior.

Fruits, capsules in the shape of a pyramid with 3 sides, 40 mm in height and 20 to 25 mm across, containing a black ovoid seed in each lobe.

Étymologie  /  Etymology :

    Koelreuteria : nom donné en l’honneur de Joseph Gottlieb Kölreuter

        (1733-1806), botaniste allemand qui a étudié le pollen de plus de

        1000 espèces de plantes et développé des méthodes de pollinisation

        artificielle.

    Paniculata : emprunt du latin paniculatus, -a, -um  (adj.)

        [ < panicula, -ae  (nom) = la panicule ] = en forme de panicule,

        disposé en panicule, en référence à la disposition des fleurs dans

        l’inflorescence.


    Koelreuteria : name given in honour of Joseph Gottlieb Kölreuter

        (1733-1806), German botanist who studied the pollen of more than

        1000 species of plants and developed methods of artificial pollination.

    Paniculata : borrowed from Latin paniculatus, -a, -um  (adj)

        [ < panicula, -ae  (noun) = panicle ] = panicle-shaped, paniculate,

        laid out in panicle, referring to the arrangement of the flowers in the

        inflorescence.
