Arbrisseau hermaphrodite, à tiges très ramifiées, glabres ou peu poilues, à écorce vert grisâtre avec l’âge.

Feuilles opposées décussées, simples, ovales à lancéolées, dentées, vert foncé brillant, de 50 mm de long au plus, en général glabres, pointues, à pétiole court, cordées ou tronquées à la base, rappelant des feuilles d’ortie. Bractées foliacées plus petites.

Fleurs à symétrie bilatérale, blanches, lilas pâle ou rosâtres, de 17 à 20 mm de long, insérées par 2 à l’aisselle des feuilles supérieures. Corolle à 2 lèvres, la supérieure en casque, l’inférieure trilobée. Calice poilu à l’intérieur, à 5 sépales soudés en 2 lèvres, la supérieure à 3 dents, l’inférieure à 2 dents; dents terminées par des soies. Ovaire supère.

Fruits, 4 akènes noirs à maturité.

Shrub hermaphrodite. Stems very branched, glabrous or not very hairy, with a bark greyish green with age.

Leaves opposite decussate, simple, ovate to lanceolate, toothed, shining dark green, 50 mm long at most, generally glabrous, pointed, with a short petiole, cordate or truncate at the base, reminding leaves of nettle. Foliaceous bracts smaller.

Flowers bilaterally symmetrical, white, pale lilac or pinkish, from 17 to 20 mm long, inserted by 2 at the axil of the upper leaves. Corolla with 2 lips, the higher one helmet-shaped, the lower one three-lobed. Calyx hairy inside, with 5 sepals fused in 2 lips, the higher one with 3 teeth, the lower one with 2 teeth; teeth finished by bristles. Ovary superior.

Fruits, 4 achenes black at maturity.
