Plante herbacée, hermaphrodite, à tiges étalées à dressées, légèrement poilues.
Feuilles alternes, composées trifoliées, à folioles de 20 à 50 mm de long, obovales à oblongues, glabres et dentées vers le sommet. Stipules petites, entières, soudées au pétiole.
Fleurs à symétrie bilatérale, blanc crème, teintées de pourpre à la base, de 8 à 18 mm de long, solitaires ou par 2 à l’aisselle des feuilles supérieures. Corolle papilionacée à étendard plus long que les ailes. 9 étamines soudées entre elles et 1 libre. Ovaire supère.
Fruits, gousses linéaires, dressées, de 50 à 110 mm de long, glabres à légèrement poilues, à long bec et nervures longitudinales.

Flowers bilaterally symmetrical, cream-coloured white, with purple marks at the base, from 8 to 18 mm long, solitary or by 2 at the axil of the upper leaves. Corolla papilionaceous with the standard longer than the wings. 9 stamens fused with each other and 1 free. Ovary superior.
Fruits, linear, erect pods, from 50 to 110 mm long, glabrous to slightly hairy, with a long beak and longitudinal veins.

Étymologie / Etymology :
Trigonella : emprunt du grec ancien τρίγωνος, -ος, -ον (adj.)
[ < τρεῖς (adj.) = trois + γωνία, -ας (nom) = l’angle ] = à trois angles,
triangulaire, en référence à la forme de la corolle dont l'étendard et les
ailes étalées forment un triangle.
Foenum-Graecum : emprunt du latin foenum-graecum (nom)
[ < fenum (foenum), -i (nom) = le foin + graecus, -a, -um (adj.) = grec ]
= le foin grec, en référence à son utilisation comme fourrage dans
l'Antiquité.
Trigonella : borrowed from Classical Greek τρίγωνος, -ος, -ον (adj)
[ < τρεῖς (adj) = three + γωνία, -ας (noun) = angle ] = with three
angles, triangular, referring to the shape of the corolla whose standard
and spread out wings form a triangle.
Foenum-Graecum : borrowed from Latin foenum-graecum (noun)
[ < fenum (foenum), -i (noun) = hay + graecus, -a, -um (adj) = Greek ]
= Greek hay, referring to its use as fodder in Antiquity.
