Plante herbacée, hermaphrodite, délicate, érigée, entièrement glauque.
Feuilles à la base, dressées le long de la tige, divisées bipennatiséquées, à segments linéaires à lancéolés.
Fleurs à symétrie radiaire, jaunes, de 10 à 15 mm de diamètre, réunies en cymes. Pédoncule dressé. Fleurs à corolle s’ouvrant presque à plat au soleil. Corolle à 4 pétales inégaux, trilobés, libres, les deux externes bossus à la base, veinés de vert au dos, à lobe central plus petit que les lobes latéraux. Étamines à filet étroitement triangulaire. Pollen jaune orangé. Ovaire supère.
Fruits, capsules déhiscentes, oblongues, en forme de gousse, de 4 à 6 cm de long, dressées à étalées, courbées, nettement articulées.

Flowers radially symmetrical, yellow, from 10 to 15 mm in diameter, joined together in cymes. Peduncle erect. Flowers with a corolla opening almost flat in the sun. Corolla with 4 unequal, three-lobed, free petals, the two external ones uneven at the base, veined of green on the back, with the central lobe smaller than the lateral ones. Stamens with a narrowly triangular filament. Pollen orange yellow. Ovary superior.
Fruits, dehiscent, oblong capsules, in the shape of a pod, from 4 to 6 cm long, erect to spread out, curved, definitely articulated.

Étymologie / Etymology :
Hypecoum : emprunt du grec ancien ὑπήκοον, -ου (nom)
[ < ὑπήκοος, -οος, -οον (adj.) = qui prête l’oreille à, qui écoute,
soumis ] = le cumin, nom donné à la plante par Dioscoride, médecin et
botaniste grec mort en 90 apr. J.-C., en référence soit à la petite taille
de la plante, soit aux effets narcotiques de celle-ci.
Imberbe : emprunt du latin imberbis, -is, -e (adj.)
[ < in- / im- (préfixe privatif) = in- , non- + barba, -ae (nom)
= la barbe ] = non-barbu, imberbe, en référence à une plante
entièrement glabre.
Hypecoum : borrowed from Classical Greek ὑπήκοον, -ου (noun)
[ < ὑπήκοος, -οος, -οον (adj) = who listens, subject ] = cumin, name
given to the plant by Dioscorides, Greek doctor and botanist died
in 90 AD, referring to either the small size of the plant or to its
narcotic effects.
